It’s about time I did this

January 26th, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

I’ve been watching these wonderful DT members for Arctic Frog post some fabulous work with my two new collections and it is so much fun!  They are all enormously talented and make my stuff look SOOOOO good!  So, I’ve picked a few and, with permission, am posting them here for your viewing enjoyment.
Melissabestfriends

Another…
Lisa_togetheragain

Both of those are with the Sunday Brunch line, which was very popular with the DT gals, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.  Now, here’s a Flower Show layout:
Lisa_toenails
One more Flower Show layout:

Kelly_grandmakisses

And, I actually did a couple with my digital files, so I think I’ll add them, too.  Here’s the first and I love it so much I may just try to recreate it with paper :) .

Flirt

and one more:
Unquestionably

I actually got to see some of these in person at the office yesterday and they are even more awesome!  It is just so fun to be a part of this company and I know it has a bright future.  I can’t wait to watch it grow this year and I have faith that it will.  Alannah has great ideas, we have some great products and wonderful gals to help show them off…how could it not?!?  Wish us luck at CHA next week and stop by and take a peek at our new stuff if you have a chance!  Alannah has two awesome new collections, too…you can see it all in the catalog at the Arctic Frog website.

Okay, need more coffee…try to get more later, but it’s going to be a busy day…make it a great one for you!

So I may be cheap, but this works!

January 23rd, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

Someone was discussing ribbon storage over at ACOT so I thought I’d share this here:

Ribbons

It is an empty bread crumb container.  I put the wider ones on the outside, securing the ends to the can with a glue dot and taping down the ends.  Then, I punched holes in the lid, dropped the shorter, narrower pieces inside and pulled a couple of ends out of each hole.  Works great!  You could even use bigger paper containers for a bigger collection.  I have a Mashed Potatoes container that is like 12" tall that would be awesome for a ribbon collector :) .

Anyway, enjoy!

Tagged again!

January 23rd, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

Rachael tagged me and it looked like fun, so here goes:

What scrapbooking lines/products/etc do you dislike?
I am too new at this whole paper scrapping thing to have opinions about that, yet.

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to scrap?
I haven’t scrapped it, yet.  I lost both of my parents in 2004 and really want to scrap some family photos with detailed journaling, but I haven’t been able to do it, yet.

What technique do you use more than any other?
I don’t know what is considered a technique, LOL.  I use lots of papers and staples, I’m a minimalist.  I also love angles in my layouts.

Ever been published?
Finally, in the January issue of Scrapbook Trends…most likely more to come, but not with my layouts.  The fabulous Arctic Frog design team has done some AMAZING things with my paper lines and I’m sure I’ll be seeing some of them in print…I think that will be just as exciting as seeing my own layouts there.

What’s the smallest scrap of paper you save?
Ummm, well, again, I’m new at this, but probably about 1" x 3" because I’m still working on the mini album it came from.

Ever have any scrapbooking-related injuries?
One of my first altered projects gave me a whopper of a paper cut, right on the tip of my index finger…ouch!

Finish the sentence "If I wasn’t a scrapbooker, I would spend my money on….."
Electronics! I love gadgets and do-dads that make life easier, faster and exciting! (Rachael, I didn’t even bother to change this one because I am a gadget geek, too!)

Give us your best storage or organizational idea.
Rachael’s response: Get yourself a good friend who like organization and bribe her to come over with the offer of free supplies! :)   My reply: Where do you live, again?

You just won a week-long scrapbooking cruise for 5. Who’s going with you?
I will have to go virtual here for the most part because I only have one real IRL scrapping buddy.  So, people I know I could learn alot from would be Kelley (the one IRL buddy), Bree, Alannah & Rachael.

After you’ve answered the questions, tag 6 of your scrapbook buddies!
Hmmmmm, trying to think of scrappers with blogs that I know also paper scrap since some of these questions are paper related!

Just in case you’re wondering…

January 18th, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

We’ve been having trouble with our host and decided to move…but have been having a bit of trouble getting it done.  At about Midnight, my awesome new host finally got things moving like they should have been and the server move is in progress.  So, the site is temporarily closed.  It may tell you it’s closed and you may even get a "page cannot be found" error, but it’s okay.  It takes a while for the new server name to get through the system.  We’ll be back soon and we’re going to be better than ever!

Thanks for your patience!

Two layouts…

January 17th, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

One from me…
Beachtowels

with my Just a Boy kit, for the Scraplift Challenge this week at DSD.

One from Suzy, one my very first DT members who I hand picked from the gallery at SBB and convinced to join my team…she used my Broken Hearted Smile kit for this fabulous layout!
Concentrationbysuzy

I am going to try to show off the work of my fabulous DT members more often because they are all so talented and I am so lucky to have them working with my creations…

That’s it for now…it’s late and I’m off to bed.  Have a good day or night or whatever it is wherever you are whenever you read this, LOL!

  3. Fort Smith, Arkansas
  4. Tontitown, Arkansas

  4. Las Vegas

Four places you have been on vacation:

  1. Vale, Colorado
  2. Hot Springs, Arkansas
  3. Palm Springs, California
  4. New Orleans, Louisiana

I am soooooooooo sick of this!

January 15th, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

I had a whole friggin’ post composed with photos and all and my stupid connection went out as I was attempting to publish it, so what do you think happened?  Yep, lost the whole thing.  So, I’m going to start over and put heading over each section because I have alot to cover!

A Cherry on Top – new place to find my kits

Some of you may not know this, but when I started selling, I was at SBE.  They’re nice people and I got some great exposure over there, but just needed more control over how and when I could do things so I opened my own shop.  I love my shop, I really do, but I just need a bit more exposure…so, when I received an invitation to sell in the new Digital Shop at A Cherry On Top, I thought it was an offer I couldn’t resist.  It is primarily a paper site now, but they are wanting to expand their community and product offerings to include digital so they’re building the new digital section of the shop now and plan to open on February 1st.  They have a fantastic design team which includes two of my own DT members, Bree Clarkson and Rachael Giallongo, both of whom are phenomenal artists and I am so honored to work with them not only as members of my team, but as members of the DT at the new shop.  I really think this is going to be good for me, my kits and the digital community as a whole.  We had sort of a rough start, but it’s getting better and I can say for sure that now I feel more welcomed there than I do at a certain vegetable site.  Well, maybe welcomed isn’t the right word…sometimes at the other site, I just feel plain invisible and that’s not a fun feeling.  So, anyway, I’m looking forward to great things at A Cherry on Top…stay tuned!

Speaking of Rachael…

Funny thing, she accused me of holding out on her when she heard about my upcoming stuff for Arctic Frog.  Well, I think she’s been doing a little holding out of her own.  I was just leaving the paper crop on Friday night, up at the counter getting ready to pay and look what I found:

Rachaelbook

What a cool idea book!  It shows fun and interesting ways to incorporate everyday ordinary office supplies into your layouts.  The book is copyright 2005 so I’m not sure when it came out, but I’ve already seen some of these techniques done in both paper and digiscrapping…did you gals start these trends, Rachael?  Hey, can I get your autograph :D ?  Anyway, it was really cool to look down and see that and say "Hey, she’s on my design team!"…and since I’m new to the whole paper scrapping thing, I bet I’ll learn from some of the cool techniques in here as well.

Oh, yeah…the crop!

Okay, what fun I had!  My friend, Kelley McDonald met me there and we really had a great visit.  She’s been paper scrapping for over ten years, so I could definitely learn a few things from her!  We both made an incredibly cute mini album and I am so proud of mine!  It still has to be bound and the photos actually need to be added as well as the embellies, but I just think it’s so cute like it is, I have to show it off.  I used the Junkitz Salsa Papers for it…   I have photos of Bailey giving her Daddy a makeover with her plastic makeup from last year and photos of Daddy giving her a makeover this year with her real makeup, so those are what I plan to put in it.  I just have to go through, crop, enlarge and print them and then finish it up.  It’s going to be such a fun little album for her.  Anyway, here are a few photos of what I’ve done so far…thanks, Kelley, for all the help and the great visit, too!

Mini_1_2

Mini_2_2

Mini_3_1

Okay, am I just wearing you out with all this stuff?  I know, I know, I shouldn’t wait so long between entries, but it’s been crazy, lately!  So, what’s next…oh, yeah, check this out:

Yep, I made it!  The first designer CT call I answered (I think) and I made it!  But, I didn’t make the ModScraps one…oh, well, maybe next time.  Ashley has some fun stuff and her style suits me perfectly.  I did this layout last night:

Miraculousyouclaire

Okay, isn’t Baby Claire a doll?  I got some fantastic shots of her at a playdate the other day and just had to scrap this one.  Anyway, this is my first layout as a CTM for Ashley and I am really happy with it.  I used her Trendsetter Paper Pack and Trendsetter Elements Set, both of which can be purchased at Scrapbook-Bytes.  I really like these sets and I’m sure I’ll use them again.

You know, I sort of thought it was odd to see designers being CTMs for other designers, promoting the work of other designers instead of their own.  In fact, until I became a CTM for Digital Memories Magazine, I’d never used anyone else’s stuff.  But when I got access to the team kits over there, I really enjoyed working with some of the different stuff and it gave me a reason to scrap.  I have been so darn busy with the DSD site and other stuff in my life that I haven’t been taking nearly as many photos as I should or scrapping as much as I’d like to.  I’m hoping that this will inspire me to get back to what I love most about this hobby…creating beautiful art with my treasured photos…that’s what it’s really about, anyway.

Almost finished, I promise!  One more thing…

My Arctic Frog collections are

off the presses and in the hands of the fantastic design team members for Arctic Frog.  I have been having such a great time seeing what they’ve done with the goodies so far and I can’t wait to be able to post a few of their layouts here.  I am going over to the office to grab the rest of the stuff tomorrow and I’m going to play around a bit, too.  I got a few sheets off the press (literally) and brought them home, but haven’t played with them, yet.  I want to get the rest of the great stuff and see what I can do with it, but no peeking until Alannah gets them up on the site.  Oh, but there is a peek at one of her collections at her blog…go check it out!

Okay, I think I’ll close this entry and come back and do the meme that Alannah tagged me for…

Lots to talk about…

January 13th, 2006 by simplescrapskathy

but not enough time this morning, so just a quick freebie.  One of the gals over at ACOT wanted to try printing out some doodles on a transparency to use on a paper layout, so I put together this little set:

Doodles

Grab them here!  Enjoy!
